2021 Seniors Community Grant Project
The “Isolating Yet Connecting” project will promote volunteerism through remote/virtual network and communication through which Chinese older adults and seniors will identify their personal interests or hobbies and devote their time and effort in developing the newly identified interests or hobbies during isolating at home to avoid exposure to the disease yet engaging in connecting with their peers in a safe and comfortable environment. Senior volunteers will be trained to be strong leaders and mentors in motivating their peers to learn and engage in the project activities. During the period of the proposed project, and under the leadership and mentoring of the seniors volunteer mentors, Chinese older adults and seniors will keep in touch with each other, learning new skills, sharing their experiences, reducing feeling of loneliness or fear, receiving cognitive stimulation to keep them remain active and lead a safe and meaningful living, physically, socially and mentally. Senior volunteers will play an important role in planning, implementing and evaluating the performance of the project while they grow personally and contribute to community building.
